Ludbrook homestead in the distance (circa 1920)

The story begins in 1860 when Caroline and Samuel Ludbrook made their home and established their farm in a rich and fertile area known as the garden of Taiamai, inland from the Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand.

The family records that Ludbrook hand-churned butter became the first butter made commercially in the Bay of Islands. We still pick lemons and figs from the site of the original Ludbrook home orchard.

Today Ludbrook House Fine Foods family-run business manufactures on-site a gourmet range of quality homemade jellies, jams, preserves, condiments and cakes using fruit harvested from the Ludbrook Orchard and other local Northland orchards.

Taking tea in the garden at Ludbrook House

In Summer we open our garden and invite you to take tea, coffee or cold cordials with a slice of our delicious homemade cakes. The garden, registered with the New Zealand Garden Trust, is a traditional country garden, rambling over a large area and incorporating the fig, plum and citrus orchard.

Panoramic views with pa sites forming sculptured landmarks are a feature of the surrounding countryside. Relax in the shade of the decades old pepper tree and soak up the atmosphere created by the beauty of this historic area.
