Ludbrook House News
We wish all our clients and friends a Happy & Prosperous New Year.
In the North we are experiencing a prolonged drought such as we have not had
for many years. Because our orchard is linked to the farm water supply
it is important that the farm stock take precedence ahead of the trees. We
have been able to water our figs for short periods but cannot say what effect
the drought will have on our fig harvest. Perhaps they will be better
than ever !
Our fig harvest will begin later in February or early March and we will let you
know with updates on this page and email messages.
The plum trees had good crops and although they were much picked on by the birds
we have been able to increase our production of Ludbrook House Spicy Plum Sauce. I
am happy to report that Spicy Plum sauce was one of our best sellers in 2009.
This summer we have been attending an Artisan Food Market in Russell on the second
Saturday of each month since November. www.artisanmarket.co.nz. I
have enjoyed this market. It is held in the Kamakura Restaurant premises,
sited at the end of the Russell wharf. We have been able to interact with
tourists from many countries as well as getting feed back from New Zealanders.
Our Ludbrook House Pure Beef Sausages prove to be a great hit with German and
Australian tourists! The market will end in April and begin again in November.
‘Handmade at Ludbrook House’ stands for taste and integrity. Our core products of preserves, jams, jellies and condiments hold the essence of traditional preserving methods with the added value of the utilization of the beautiful fruit grown here in the Bay of Islands.
If you are travelling North, please call in.
Refreshments are available in the garden which is registered with the NZ Gardens Trust and our gorgeous shop is stocked with all our products plus some not found on the product lists.
We serve tea or coffee ( real china !) with a slice of fabulous cake and invite you to relax awhile and enjoy the view.
Best wishes from
Chris Ludbrook
